Trail Structures: Timber Steps Workshop

Hudson Highlands State Park
Sunday, 9/15/24
9am-3pm

Trail structures are built to make a trail safer, more sustainable, and more enjoyable. Types of trail structures include stairs, walls, stepping stones, culverts, etc. Trail structures may be built with materials on site or imported, like these timber steps, but many of the stone structures you see on trails in this area are built from native stone found on site.

This course helps you gain or brush up on the skills to build safe, sustainable tread and provide a positive user experience. You will also learn why and where structures are applicable.

Join the Taconic AmeriCorps Trail Crew to learn some carpentry and trail construction skills on the Brook Trail in the Hudson Highlands, part of a popular loop for those hiking Breakneck Ridge.
